Every year Sensei Alan makes an award to the junior student whom he feels has excelled throughout the year. This years the award goes to 8 year old Blake Stainton. Blake regularly attends two classes a week, is always respectful and well behaved and above all Blake always gives 100% to his karate training. Steve is pictured below, receiving his certificate from a very proud Sensei Alan Lewis.

KYU GRADING - MONDAY 28th FEBRUARY
Sensei Mick Dewey visited the club recently to conduct a training session followed by a kyu grading. Well deserved success was attained by all those who graded and we wish them well with their continued study of karate.
STUDENT OF THE YEAR 2010
Congratulations go to Angelica Ferriby who was awarded 'Student of the Year' on Wednesday 22nd December. Angelica has attended two classes a week throughout the year and has demonstrated real grit & determination throughout. Angelica's attitude and concentration in class has been an asset to us and it is hoped that she continues to work as hard throughout the coming year.
BO FIGHTING WITH SENSEI RICHARD LANGDALE
Students experienced something a little different on Wednesday 27th October when Sensei Richard Langdale visited the club to guest instruct in the art of using a Bo. He led students through some of the very basic techniques, referring all the time to key shotokan fundementals such as Hikite and hip rotation. Sensei Richard ended the class by leading us through Heian Jodan with a Bo. We look forward to welcoming Sensei Richard back again some time in the future.

CLUB GRADING - MONDAY 16th AUGUST 2010
Sensei Mick Dewey, 7th Dan and Chief Instructor of SEKU visited the club on 16th August to conduct a training session with kyu grading at the club. The dojo was pretty packed on what was a very hot and humid evening as Sensei Mick Dewey led those present through an hours training concentrating on basic Kihon techniques. A welcome refresher for the higher grades and good practise for those students who graded later that evening!
The next club grading will be held on Wednesday 24th November 2010.
SENSEI ELWYN HALL - DAY COURSE 24th JULY PORTSMOUTH HONBU DOJO
Sensei Alan and several of his club members travelled over to Portsmouth this weekend for the opportunity of a days training with this formidable world class fighter and instructor. Sensei Hall focussed the first class on breaking down basic technique looking at the speed of the first position, and obtaining a correct fighting stance to ensure ultimate speed and power could be delivered. The second class saw students put these new skills into practise with eachother.
True to form, students left Sensei Hall's course exhausted but having learnt a great deal to take back to their Dojo's and continue working on.
SEKU NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010 - MOUNTBATTEN CENTRE SATURDAY 22ND MAY
Crofton School of Shotokan Karate came home with a whole heap of trophies from this fantastic event. Both adult and junior members took part and all the hard work put in by members over the last few months paid off!
A special mention to Lauren Shepherd, whos outstanding performance in the childrens individul kata was a sight to behold!
SPECIAL TRAINING WEEKEND
The 17th & 18th April 2010 was Sensei Dewey's weekend Gasshuku in aid of the Damon Health Angel Fund and it was a resounding success.
Karateka from Crofton Shotokan School of Karate travelled to be part of this special training weekend, which brought back great memories of the old SEKU Gasshuku's. In keeping with the Gasshuku theme, (Gasshuku meaning "Lodging Together") many of the Karateka stayed at Littlesea Caravan Park and made the short trip to the dojo each day at Budmouth Sports Centre. The idea of Gasshuku is not only to lodge together, but to train through tough times and gather in mutual development of Karate-Do. This was certainly achieved by all.
Our sincere thanks to Sensei Mick Dewey (7th Dan) for a memorable weekend of karate!
